Music is a wonderful artistic form – one can elicit almost all emotional responses with some carefully chosen chords or lyrics, and wonderous messages can be conveyed about the greatest mankind has to offer as well as its devastating lows it inflicts upon itself. Music has evolved into a hugely eclectic, varied experience, with countless instruments and genres spanning the ages and the globe.
Let me introduce you to The Beards, an Australian band focused on spreading beard awareness and all the good that comes from having facial hair.
My fiancée discovered this band through the magic of Tumblr, and ever since I’ve been a definite fan. Their music got me through a dark period when I was considering shaving off my magnificent face-fuzz – it was their stoic message of manliness that convinced me to continue growing beyond the mere stubble I had acquired to achieve true beardly greatness.
I heartily suggest you listen to their two albums The Beards and Beards, Beards, Beards because not only are they incredibly funny guys, but they are genuinely good musicians – look out for the saxophone solos that litter their songs. It’s about time we had a good saxophone solo again. Also, at the time of writing I have just discovered they have a third album out now, Having a Beard is the New Not Having a Beard, which I am going to buy as soon as I can.
